Audi RS4 Avant Takes Shape in Latest Spy Photos

The Audi RS4 Avant mule has been spied testing and this time, it’s sporting the correct front bumper.

The last time spy photographers caught the Audi RS4 Avant testing, the German automaker was using an S4 Avant as a mule, but with fender flares from the Audi allroad. Now, Audi has moved to a proper prototype, fully camouflaged with a sportier front bumper that you would expect on a high-performance RS model. The rear also sports larger oval exhaust pipes, although the wider fenders still appear to be fake and borrowed from the allroad.

Naturally, there are larger wheels and brakes on the prototype, further hinting that it’s the RS4 being tested. Unfortunately, it’s still unclear what will power the new Audi RS4 Avant, but the latest rumors point to a V6 engine with electric turbochargers to deliver close to 500 horsepower.

The good news? There’s a possibility that the new Audi RS4 Avant will make its way to the U.S. In an interview last year, then head of Audi’s Quattro GmbH, Heinz Hollerweger said, “Europe is becoming a less important market, the U.S.A. and China are where we see growth happening. The U.S. is changing, and there is more demand there [for wagons], so maybe that will change.”

Since then, former Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann has taken over at Quattro.
