Welcome to a new editorial segment called The Skinny, hosted by your favorite Craig Cole. We hope this will be a weekly feature where Craig sounds off (gives you the skinny, if you will) on the latest news from the auto industry or whatever else he has on his mind.
I’m not usually a fan of eco-friendly vehicles.
Their skinny tires, listless performance and wind-tunnel styling are just too many privations for me to endure. But there is one fuel-sipper that I adore more than chocolate-flavored morphine.
What is this mystery machine? Could it be the affordable Toyota Prius c hybrid? What about Tesla’s luxurious and speedy Model S?
Surprisingly, my favorite miserly motorcar is the Mazda MX-5 Miata! Wait, what? That’s not an EV, a hybrid or even a thrifty subcompact; it’s a sports car. Check out the video above to hear me explain my reasoning for this seemingly strange opinion.

The 1.5l Miata would have a market here I think, yep not as popular as the 2.0l, but would be the cheapest way into RWD. The MPG is icing on the cake, but not the main reason to buy a Miata.
