Volkswagen could cut as many as 40 models to help make way for the company’s next-generation of cars.

VW announced its future plans last week, stating its intention to build an onslaught of electric vehicles along with investing in ride-sharing services and autonomous driving. Billions of euros will be needed to find the new plan, as Volkswagen tries to reestablish itself as a green-car leader by 2025.

This will lead to the company cutting more than 40 current vehicle models according to German newspaper Handelsblatt. Currently, Volkswagen produces about 340 different models spread over its entire portfolio of brands which includes MAN, Audi, Skoda, Seat, Porsche and more.

A spokesperson from Volkswagen did confirm at least some of the news to Automotive News, saying that “a decision on how many models will be phased out or ceased has not been taken yet.” That at least means that Volkswagen is looking to cut some excess vehicles to make way for its new movement of EVs.

they can axe models by selling off Ducati, for example. Did you see how vehemently they denied Ducati was for sale? Like How dare you even ask if Ducati is for sale?? Usually; that means just the opposite; so MOST DEFINITELY Ducati is up for sale!! They are vetting buyers. News of the sale of Ducati will come unexpectedly like a thief in the night.
