Next-Gen Mercedes GLE Spotted Testing

Although the Mercedes GLE just received a new name and a fresh look, the brand is already working on the next-generation model.

That is because although the name is new, the GLE is merely a refresh of the old ML-Class. Pictured in these spy photos is an entirely new GLE, built on a fresh platform which Mercedes calls the Modular High Architecture (MHA).

As can be expected from most modern cars moving to a new platform, the GLE is set to lose some weight, which should help with fuel economy. Power will come from a range of gasoline and diesel engines along with a plug-in hybrid setup. A turbocharged V8 will also be stuffed under the hood for the sporty AMG variants.

Though thick camouflage is used on this prototype, but we can see that the overall styling of the GLE seems use wider wheel arches with a slightly lower, sleeker overall look.

The all-new GLE is expected to debut around 2018.
