The Ford Fusion, Mondeo and Lincoln MKZ models are all affected by a new recall.

A total of 680,872 vehicles are affected by the recall that includes the 2013-2016 Ford Fusion, 2015-2016 Ford Mondeo and 2013-2015 Lincoln MKZ.

According to the recall notice, the front driver- and passenger-side seat belt pretensioners may not have sufficient insulation applied. As a result, when the pretensioners are activated, the heat generated can cause the cables connected to the belts to separate. This can prevent the seat belts from effectively restraining the occupant, potentially leading to injuries.

The American automaker is aware of two accidents and two injuries related to the issue. In order to fix the problem, dealers will inject an insulation coating around the pretensioner, which should effectively keep heat away from the cables to ensure the seat belt properly restrains the user in the event of an accident. Affected owners will be notified starting January 16.

*slow clap* Way to go, Dearborn! Quality is Job One... well, it's somewhere on the list after shiny wheels but before new linoleum flooring in the breakroom.
