New Lamborghini Huracan Variant Rumored to Set Nurburgring Record

Lamborghini might raise some eyebrows at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show by debuting a new high-potency Huracan variant.

For quite some time now, spy photographers have been catching a hotter Lamborghini Huracan variant testing, and it is believed it will either take the Superleggera or Performante nameplate. Based on Lamborghini tradition, it is likely Superleggera will be attached to the coupe model while Performante is used on the convertible, but the Italian automaker could break from tradition. Regardless of what it is going to be called, rumor has it that the supercar has set a new Nurburgring lap record, dethroning the Porsche 918 Spyder’s time of 6:57.00.

The hardcore version is a lightweight, aerodynamically enhanced model and if this pans out to be true, it will become the fastest production car at the world famous track.

The only thing that has been confirmed is the hardcore Huracan is faster around the Nurburgring than the Aventador SV, according to Maurizio Reggiani, Lamborghini’s head of research and development. The Aventador SV notched a time of 6:59.73.

Speaking to Australia’s Motoring, Reggiani promised all the details will be spilled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show and hinted that the company “succeeded in something that is much more of what” he expected. The model will also feature new technology that Reggiani says Lamborghini invented and it’s “unique and fantastic.”

The 2017 Geneva Motor Show March 7 and AutoGuide.com will be reporting live from the show floor.
