Mercedes-AMG GT Four Door is Coming to Fight the Panamera

Mercedes is working on a new four-door sports car to fight directly with the Porsche Panamera.

The upcoming four door was recently previewed by the AMG GT Concept shown at the Geneva Motor Show, although based on the spy photos, the design will be toned down a little. Still, quite a few similarities are found between this car and the concept such as the thin taillights, sloping rooflines and the small windows.

This prototype is packing new LED lights up front along with a set of dual exhaust tips rather than the center-mounted exhaust ports found on the concept. Although it is being called a four-door AMG GT, the car in the photos looks like an all-new CLS, and is based on the E-Class.

A twin-turbo V8 engine with more than 600 horsepower will be offered when this car launches, which means it will pack more power than even the AMG GT R. A hybrid version, to take on Porsche’s S E-Hybrid, is also expected to show up, and will likely pack even more power.

The name for the car is still unknown. Early rumors suggested that Mercedes would call it the AMG GT 4, though that doesn’t seem likely because Mercedes already has a race car with that name.
