Details Surface From Richard Hammond's Crash
The CEO of Rimac claims the car “flew” nearly 1,000 feet.
Not much info has been disclosed since Richard Hammond’s accident from over a week ago, when he crashed the Rimac Concept One whilst competing in the Hemburg Hill Climb in Switzerland. But now, for the first time since the crash, Rimac CEO Mate Rimac has publicly released a statement.
“Turned to grass? Driving 66 km/h? The car flew 300 meters horizontally and tumbled from a 100 m height,” he said. “After the first flight it fell on asphalt road 10 m below the place where the fire started. I am not able to tell at which speed it was driven but I cannot believe what nonsense has been written by people who have no idea, or are blind, or just mischievous.”

It’s likely Rimac’s statement has been provoked by those accusing the car of some sort of mechanical failure that caused the crash. Nothing has been confirmed so far if there was any sort of failure, or if it was just driver error while Hamamond was behind the wheel. Fortunately Hammond will live to film another day, having received surgery on a fractured knee. The accident has unfortunately delayed production of the second season of The Grand Tour and its October debut date will now likely be pushed back.
