The long-awaited BMW i8 Roadster will make its debut at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show in late November.

BMW let us know it was gearing up to release the soft top version of its i8 hybrid sports car early last month when it released a teaser video of a pre-production version in a wind tunnel. The vehicle has actually been in the making for a while, with BMW first teasing it back in 2012 with the debut of the i8 Spyder Concept at Auto China in Shanghai. It then expanded on the idea with the sexily named i Vision Future Interaction at CES 2016 – a concept based on the i8 Spyder that boasted a new digital driver’s display and a huge 21-inch dash display.

According to Automotive News Europe, the production version of the i8 Roadster will be “reasonably close” to concept versions from a design standpoint. Its arrival will also see the hardtop i8 updated with additional power and longer range, so it’s safe to assume the roofless version will have more power on tap than the hardtop’s 288 hp output. It also seems possible both will be updated inside with additional tech – perhaps inspired by the aforementioned i Vision Future Interaction concept.

The i8 Roadster and the updated i8 hardtop will debut in late November before arriving at BMW dealerships sometime early next year.
