The 2018 Kia Soul and Sportage have received the highest possible safety rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Both of the crossovers received the IIHS’ coveted Top Safety Pick+ rating. The safety rating applies Soul vehicles equipped with the Primo Lit (fam) package, which adds extra-bright high-intensity discharge headlights. The rating also applies to Sportage vehicles built after June 2017 and equipped with the new HID headlamps standard on SX Turbo trim and higher.

“Kia’s world-class lineup continues to earn quality, reliability and safety awards at an increasing rate and these IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus ratings for Soul and Sportage reflect Kia’s continuous improvement and effort to improve all aspects of safety,” said Kia Motors America vice president, Orth Hedrick.

In order to receive the Top Safety Pick+ designation, a vehicle must receive a “good” rating in the IIHS’ five crashworthiness tests and also a rating of “advanced” or “superior” for frontal crash prevention systems and an “acceptable” or “good” rating in headlight testing. The Soul and Sportage join four other Kia vehicles in receiving the designation: the Forte, Optima, Cadenza and Sorento.
