4-Door Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe is Not Actually a Coupe

Mercedes-AMG has released its own set of photos featuring the camouflaged four-door GT Coupe.

Set to make its official debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show next month, the four-door AMG GT Coupe is currently undergoing testing all around the world. Unfortunately the German automaker didn’t release any details on the upcoming new model, but did promise more details will be spilled in the coming weeks.

What we do know is that the four-door coupe will set its sight on the Porsche Panamera and Mercedes-AMG gave us a good idea of what to expect with the AMG GT Concept that debuted at last year’s Geneva Motor Show.

Reports say it will have up to 800 horsepower, but not at launch. Initially, the four-door model will borrow its powertrains from the AMG GT Coupe, but eventually a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 paired with an electric motor will arrive. That hybrid model will offer torque vectoring all-wheel drive, but currently it’s unclear if similar technology will be used on the non-hybrid models. It’s likely the non-hybrids will come with rear-wheel drive as standard, while offering all-wheel drive as an option. The hybrid model however, will likely be all-wheel drive only.

The four-door AMG GT Coupe will ride on the same platform as the new E-Class, rather than a stretched version of the two-door AMG GT Coupe’s platform.

It’s still unclear what Mercedes-AMG will call the model, but we’ll know more next month once its officially debuts.
