Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced a “SpaceX Option Package” will be available on the new Tesla Roadster.

Announced at the company’s annual shareholder meeting alongside a white Roadster prototype, very little details have been revealed regarding the package, other than the possibility it will own enhanced performance specs over the base $200,000 model, which is starting production in 2020.

Many have speculated over possible upgrades, including a space-centric design with dedicated decals or a new paint color.

“It’s going to have a SpaceX option package,” said Musk. “It’s crazy.”

At the moment, Tesla is accepting reservations for the $200,000 base model, requiring a $50,000 deposit, along with a $250,000 “Founder Series” model which will be limited to the first 1000 units.

Not saying the next gen Roadster special upgrade package *will* definitely enable it to fly short hops, but maybe …

Certainly possible. Just a question of safety. Rocket tech applied to a car opens up revolutionary possibilities.

Other items announced at the annual shareholder meeting included project timelines, a new Model Y teaser, Model 3 production updates, Tesla body-shop repair centers, and a majority vote on keeping Musk and three other board members in their respective positions.
