Your First Look at the Mercedes-AMG A35 Sedan for the US

Mercedes-AMG is moving further downmarket with plans to introduce a new 300 hp A35 AMG in North America shortly.

The new model, which will undercut the next-generation A45 AMG and serve as the performance sub-brand’s new entry-level offering, will feature a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine making around 300 hp. The engine, a reworked version of the M270 2.0-liter turbo found in the new A-Class, will be likely paired with all-wheel drive and Mercedes-Benz’s new seven-speed dual clutch transmission. Expect a 0-60 mph somewhere in the 4.5s range and performance on-par or similar to the VW Golf R.

This prototype isn’t giving away any secrets, appearing mostly like your typical A-Class sedan. While Europe will receive a hatchback, and likely Canada as well, the A-Class will only be available in sedan form in the United States. When the A35 sedan for the US does debut, expect it to look a lot like the standard A-Class sedan but with some light AMG aesthetic changes, such as AMG wheels, AMG front and rear fascias and an AMG interior trim pieces.

Don’t worry, CLA45 AMG fans, a high-horsepower A-Class AMG sedan is on the way too. The new A45 AMG will surpass the CLA45’s 375 hp and will probably look to dethrone the 400 hp Audi RS3 as well. Expect a sub-4 second 0-60 mph time for that model, along with even stiffer suspension tuning and more aggressive exterior styling.

Expect to see the new Mercedes-AMG A35 sedan in early 2019.
