Jeep Wrangler Plug-In Hybrid On Track For 2020
Come 2020, the Jeep Wrangler will gain a plug-in hybrid option to make the off-road SUV just a smidge greener.
Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles announced last Thursday that not only is the SUV on track for a 2020 launch, but the Toledo, Ohio, machining plant will build some of the plug-in Jeep’s essential components.
The machining plant was selected to produce the power electronics module for the Wrangler plug-in, which houses the power inverter module and the integrated dual charger module. The latter consists of the onboard charger and DC/DC converter. The component resides beneath a protective structure under the vehicle between the exhaust and prop shaft.

The Toledo facility will be responsible for assembling the sub-systems for the module, uploading software, and conducting final testing on coolant and electrical systems. When the Wrangler plug-in does debut, it could borrow the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid’s system, which pairs a 3.6-liter V6 engine and a 16-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery together.
The Wrangler won’t be the only electrified product coming from FCA in the near future – the automaker plans to introduce 30 electrified models between now and 2022.
