BMW Vision INext Electric Crossover Teased

BMW is ready to take on the Tesla Model X with its own electric SUV, and we’ll see it in conceptual form soon. The German luxury brand teased the Vision iNext concept on Monday.

The teaser included a sole photo of the electric car’s front fascia and a video showing off the vehicle rear. Up front, it’s clear the Vision iNext will borrow style from the i Vision Dynamics concept, an electric sedan concept that debuted at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. We spy a pair of sleek headlights offsetting a massive front grille surrounded by blue LED lighting. The grille shape is also similar to the i Vision Dynamics concept, though it looks exceptionally large planted at the front of the Vision iNext. Or perhaps it’s the blue lightning making it look so large.

Moving to the back of the electric car, it’s harder to make out details. But, slim LED taillights are present and flank the BMW badge. Overall, the rear sports a fluid look and sheet metal that appears quite round. Near the bottom of the back end are bumper cutouts, though the rest of the design remains masked.

BMW has kept the iNext under wraps and we don’t know much about the forthcoming electric car. However, a fifth-generation battery design should provide a 400-plus mile range from a 120-kilowatt-hour battery pack. And as BMW’s showcase of technology, look for the car to feature Level 3 self-driving capability, or the ability to take one’s hands off of the steering wheel and look away for a period of time.

The Vision iNext will make its debut in multiple cities as BMW plans to fly the concept from Munich, Germany, to New York, San Francisco, and Beijing, beginning on September 9. The electric SUV will then head to Frankfurt, Germany, as the tour ends on September 14.
