2024 Subaru Crosstrek To Debut At Chicago Auto Show

The Subaru Crosstrek wasn’t going to be left behind with the latest generation of Impreza.

In an announcement shocking, well, no one, Subaru announced that the 2024 Crosstrek will debut at this year’s Chicago Auto Show. The brand remains tight-lipped about the new subcompact crossover, sending over nothing but a two-sentence long press announcement, and a tightly cropped photo of the new car’s front wheel.

Still, that doesn’t mean we can’t speculate. The Subaru Impreza has always shared a lot of its structure and design with the Subaru Crosstrek, essentially being a lifted version of the basic compact AWD hatchback, with some extra unpainted plastic to increase the newfound crossover’s street cred. In fact, the Subaru Crosstrek is already on sale in Japan. Yet, the green trim on what appears to be the lower door sill of Subaru’s teaser image looks a little different compared to what we’ve seen of the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek sold in Japan. Could the North American version look different?

We aren’t sure if the North American Crosstrek will be the same as its Japanese brethren, though. In Japan. The Crosstrek comes with a 2.0-liter boxer four-cylinder but is mated to a 48-volt mild hybrid system. It can also be ordered in front-wheel-drive trim, an option no North American Subaru has had since the 1990s.

By comparison, the North American 2024 Subaru Impreza comes with a 2.0-liter non-hybrid boxer four producing 152 horsepower, or a 2.5-liter boxer four with 182 horsepower in the sporty RS trim. We expect these powertrains to carry over to the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek, which in its current form, sees both the 2.0L and 2.5L used, depending on trim. The reportedly slow-selling plug-in hybrid has been axed, but given the growing popularity of PHEVs, we wouldn’t be surprised if it returns a little bit later, in a much more improved form.

The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek will debut at the 2023 Chicago Auto show.

Very bad idea to have a 2 wheel option other than on their sport car. They'll take a hit on their reputation for only selling (day to day cars) that only come with AWD.
