Ford has big plans for its smallest EcoBoost engine that will include a wider proliferation in North America.

In an effort to further improve its fuel economy ahead of impending average fuel economy requirements, Ford announced today that it will offer engine start-stop technology across 70 percent of its nameplates by 2017.

Earlier this week, Ford announced that an EcoBoost racing engine would debut at this year’s 24 Hours of Daytona and now the American automaker has released a video of that powerplant heading to the dyno for some testing.

There will be a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 taking on V8-powered race cars on January 25 at the 2014 Rolex 24 at Daytona.

Ford currently has five turbocharged engines that wear the EcoBoost nameplate, and a brand executive has confirmed that more turbocharged units are on the way. 

Ford is marking production of the two-millionth EcoBoost engine, which rolled off the line in an Escape crossover in Louisville, Ky. last week.
