Kentucky Speedway will be testing fuel-injected engines in the premier NASCAR series this Thursday, and will be the first on-track test of the technology.

Fuel injection is very common on standard fuel injected automobiles but NASCAR has stuck with carburated engines throughout its racing history. However, a decision was made last February to switch to EFI for 2012. Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford and Toyota will have at least one EFI car participating in the test session tomorrow. Before the decision was made to make the change, NASCAR officials used the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” approach to changing over to EFI technology because there were concerns over cheating by manipulatig electronic hardware and software.
