This years Beijing Auto Show marks the final stop for the Maserati Kubang SUV concept, as the next time we see the Maserati SUV, it will be in production form.

“After Beijing, we will retire the Kubang concept. Our SUV will reappear in its production form and with its final name in due time,” said Maserati CEO Harald Wester, while speaking with Automotive News Europe. Maserati sources also let slip that the production version of the SUV should show its face at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show for the first time.

Maserati’s move into the SUV market is driven by the need to be competitive with other upscale companies making the same moves, such as Lamborghini with its Urus and Bentley with the EXP 9 F.

Luxury SUVs are becoming more popular worldwide, a charge being lead by the Porsche Cayenne and its success.

Watch for the Maserati Kubang to premiere at the Detroit Auto Show in 2014.
