A machining error in 2012-2013 BMW X6 and X5 diesel vehicles is causing a power steering fluid leak, which has spurred NHTSA to commence a recall.

The leaking power steering fluid can potentially spray onto hot parts in the vehicle, increasing the risk of fire. Around 2,642 vehicles are affected by this recall.

The X5 diesel has also been recalled in the past over transmission issues, fuel filter problems and emission standards.

BMW will contact affected customers, and begin recalling the vehicles for repair in July, 2012. For more information you can contact the NHTSA safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 .
