The next generation Chevy Silverado is wrapping up its final testing stages at the company’s proving grounds in Yuma, Ariz. and will start production sometime in 2013.

Still heavily camouflaged in the photos and video, it is hard to make out the styling changes on the truck, although the proportions appear to be roughly the same. In the video, we see the Silverado towing a trailer up an incline, which is arguably the best test of the powertrain, details on which are still unclear.

Falling in line with Ford and RAM, GM confirmed that a new-generation of V8 small block engines will be offered, all of which will use direct injection. Rumored for a smaller engine options is a 3.6-liter V6 with up to 320 hp. Mated to the engines will be a six-speed transmission originally, but an eight-speed is under development, and will be ready sometime after the truck is released.
