AJ Allmendinger has been suspended indefinitely from NASCAR, after his backup ‘B’ urine test came back positive for a banned substance.

Allmendinger was first suspended earlier this month, when his ‘A’ sample came back positive. The driver quickly opted to have his ‘B’ sample tested, which came back positive as well. There are rumors that Allmendinger’s positive test results could be caused by an energy drink that he is an ambassador for, and the driver’s business manager stated that an independent lab will conduct “thorough testing on every product within A.J.’s home and motor coach to find what might collaborate with his test, which created results that were within nanograms of accepted standards.”

It’s noteworthy that both the ‘A’ and ‘B’ samples were collected at the same time, so there is a good chance that Allmendinger’s positive results are caused by the same substance – whether or not it was intentional. For now, Sam Hornish Jr. will continue to drive the number-22 race car in Allmendinger’s place.
