Fiat is planning on extending the versatility of the 500 lineup to include a small crossover that is going to take on the likes of the Nissan Juke and the MINI Countryman.

The new crossover will take most of its styling cues from the 500L, but will also receive added ride height and some bulky body panels to give it a more SUV feel. Becoming the fourth variant in the 500 lineup, the crossover is replacing the outgoing Fiat Sedici. While naming is still unknown, rumor has it that the new crossover will be called the 500x.

A new Jeep vehicle will also be built on the same platform as the 500x, and will slot in below both the patriot and compass. The all-wheel drive setup that will surely find its way into the Jeep may also be available on the 500x, and could be borrowed from the Fiat Panda.

Production of the crossover is supposed to begin at Fiat’s plant in Mirafiori, Italy in December 2013, meaning that the car won’t be available until sometime in 2014.
