Apparently a Hummer just isn’t tough enough for the rough streets of Santa Monica, which is why Arnold Schwarzenegger has switched to a Mercedes-Benz Unimog.

Schwarzenegger is notorious for helping make the Hummer a civilian vehicle, but perhaps he wants something with a bit more street cred. The Unimog, which is adorned with the tell-tale three-pointed star of Mercedes-Benz, comes with some massive wheels and towering ground clearance to deal with anyone in the way.

The Unimog was last seen in North America back in 2009, with Daimler citing EPA07 emission requirements for stopping sales.

Schwarzenegger’s Unimog retails for approximately $250,000 and had to be modified to be allowed on California roads. A company called Mertec performed the modifications.

Arnold’s fans crowded around to admire the former Governor’s new wheels, with one woman getting excited enough to climb onto the front of the vehicle and hold onto the front of the bull bars.
