Subaru is turning to its Facebook fans on August 6th, to help choose two “People’s Choice” charities to join three other nonprofits for its fifth-annual ‘Share the Love’ event.

Over the last four years, Subaru’s ‘Share the Love’ event has donated nearly $20 million to charitable organizations, and this year’s event is estimated to bring in around $5 million in donations to five separate organizations. Three organizations have already been chosen for this year’s event: The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), Make-A-Wish, and Meals on Wheels Association of America. From August 6th-26th, the automaker will turn to its Facebook fans to choose the remaining two organizations.

The 2012 People’s Choice candidates are: Alzheimer’s Association, American Forests, First Book, Leave No Trace, Special Olympics, and USO.

The ‘Share the Love’ event donates $250 for every Subaru vehicle sold or leased from November 21st to January 2nd, up to $5 million total.

“‘Share the Love’ has always been about giving back to our communities in which we live and work,” said Subaru Director of Marketing Communications, Alan Bethke. “Subaru ‘Share the Love’ charitable partners have always reflected the values and ideals of our owners. Empowering our digital demographic via Facebook is a natural extension for Share the Love.”
