The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-Cell may have been in the works for a couple of years now, but it wasn’t until this year that the German automaker detailed its electrified flagship.

Even though the SLS AMG E-Cell hasn’t even hit the market, rumor has it that AMG and Mercedes-Benz are considering a roadster variant to go along with its coupe model. That’s no real surprise though considering the SLS AMG Roadster does fairly well in its market. According to a news report from Dutch newspaper De Telegraph, Mercedes will gauge how well the SLS AMG E-Cell sells before making a decision on whether or not a roadster variant will be produced.

As for the E-Cell itself, it packs 526-hp and 649 lb-ft of torque thanks to four electric motors. A limited number of the flagship electric sports car will be sold next year.
