Ford is issuing a recall for its 2012 Edge SUV models for a fuel leak that could lead to a possible vehicle fire. 5,499 Edges will be recalled in the United States, while 346 are affected in Canada.

The American automaker is aware of a dozen instances of fuel leak complaints by customers, but no fires, injuries, or crashes have occurred as a result. Replacement parts are expected by the end of the month and the culprit is the fuel line pulse damper housing, which may crack due to an improper manufacturing process.

Dealers will replace the fuel line subassembly if necessary, and will provide free rental cars until the parts are available for affected owners. Ford will be mailing out notification letters the week of September 24th.
