Infiniti just unveiled the 2014 QX60 Hybrid at the 2013 New York Auto Show — a family-minded hybrid that offers 26 combined mpg.

Not only is that enough to put it at the forefront of the seven-passenger crossover segment, but it’s a massive improvement over the non-hybrid JX 35 nameplate’s average 21 mpg. Just like the JX, this vehicle is available in both front- and all-wheel drive with a driving range of more than 500 miles, all for a $3,000 price premium over the non-hybrid model.

Power comes from a 2.5-liter supercharged four-cylinder engine and a 15 kW electric motor for a combined 250 horsepower through a CVT. Just like the Q50 hybrid announced during the Detroit Auto Show in January, this car uses the same hybrid system as the M35h.

Lost interior space is a common pitfall with adding a hybrid system to any car and Infiniti managed to avoid sacrificing seat space or cargo room. That means the second row still has 5.5 inches of adjustable travel.

Aside from the hybrid drivetrain, Infiniti managed to keep the crossover almost exactly the same. That’s probably a good thing given its strong sales since is 2012 launch.

Infiniti hans’t releases a specific on-sale date yet, but the QX60 Hybrid is expected to reach dealers by late summer.
