Both the 2007 and 2008 4×2 Jeep Liberty and Dodge Nitro are being recalled because the tunnel shield could come loose.

In total, the recall affects about 78,200 according to Chrysler, although that number includes the Liberty’s sister vehicles not sold under NAFTA. In North America, the recall affects 61,400 vehicles and 1,000 in Canada.

Chrysler reported receiving “fewer than 40 complaints of broken driveshafts” in the affected vehicles. The automaker will install a bracket to hold the shield in place at no cost to owners, who will be contacted directly by the brand.
