Ford, Toyota Top Automakers in March 2013 Sales

Ford topped all automakers in sales last month, moving 228,818 vehicles and holding 15.75-percent market share for March 2013 as well as year-to-date.

Through three months of 2013, the American automaker has moved a total of 580,917 vehicles making it the top sold auto brand so far in 2013. Coming in second for March 2013 sales was Toyota with 175,720 units sold. Rounding off the top five was Chevrolet (173,859), Nissan (126,623), and Honda (121,938).

The bottom of the list is filled with luxury automakers such as Bentley (206) and Maserati (218), which aren’t high-volume brands to begin with. As for mainstream brands that struggled last month, MINI was 26th place with 6,071 units sold while Fiat moved 3,807 vehicles landing it in 30th. Mitsubishi continues to struggle in America, selling only 5,286 vehicles last month (28th place) while Scion sold 6,432 units – good enough for 25th place. Volkswagen was in 11th with 37,704 units sold while BMW was the top-selling luxury brand at 27,078 vehicles. The automaker bested its rival Mercedes-Benz which wasn’t far behind with 26,175 vehicles sold.
