EPA fuel economy numbers for General Motor’s Ecotec3 V6 have been released, pegging the truck at 18 mpg city and 24 mpg highway equipped with two-wheel drive.

That puts the two-wheel drive version in line with the RAM 1500 HFE in terms of city mpg, although GM’s trucks still miss Chrysler’s offering by one mile per gallon on the highway.

Not so when outfitted with four-wheel drive however, as the GM trucks pull off 17 mpg city and 22 mpg highway, making the Silverado and Sierra the most efficient four-wheel drive trucks in the city. The RAM stills beats the four-wheel drive trucks on the highway, also by just one mile per gallon.

When compared to the Ford F-150, GM’s new trucks beat out the two-wheel drive V6 version by 1 mpg city and highway, and two mpg city and one mpg highway when you look at four-wheel drive models.

V6-equipped Sierras and Silverados get a highest available towing rating of 7,200 pounds, and a maximum payload rating of 2,108 pounds.
