Mazda is excited about its 2014 Mazda3, and to show off just how improved its newest model is, the Japanese automaker is putting eight of them on a 9,300-mile road trip.

The convoy of Mazda3 hatchbacks will travel from the automaker’s factory in Hiroshima to the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany. Dubbed the Mazda Route3 – Hiroshima to Frankfurt Challenger Tour 2013, the trip will pass through nine time zones, five countries, and two continents.

The lucky few that will be joining the hatchbacks on the trip are journalists, bloggers, and Mazda dealers, and will arrive in Frankfurt on September 7, three days before the doors open to the show. The journey will start with the vehicles taking a ferry across the Sea of Japan and then the drive will begin in Vladivostok, Russia’s main Pacific port on August 3.

All the test vehicles will be powered by the SkyActiv-G engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
