Utility vehicles were by far the most popular in AutoGuide.com’s new cars section this week.

Ranging from the burgeoning sub-compact segment to three-row family haulers, the list includes new entrants and old but well loved SUVs.

The Buick Encore and Subaru XV Crosstrek were both at the top, offering a fuel efficient package with all-wheel drive and a low entry price. Moving up in size, the Kia Sportage was also popularly searched. The Korean compact crossover is available with either a 2.4-liter four cylinder base engine or a 2.0-liter turbocharged four.

Next, the Ford Explorer and Honda Pilot finished this week’s list. Both vehicles start just under $30,000 and cap off at around $40,000. Both also use V6 engines and have similar EPA fuel consumption estimates. Remarkably, the Pilot is practically geriatric compared to the Explorer.
