This year’s Nissan GT Academy will kick off at 8 p.m. EDT when the Gran Turismo 6 demo for the Sony PlayStation 3 hits the Playstation Network as a free download.

Virtual racers can also head to the GT Academy’s website to download the demo version of the game as well as sign up for the competition. The demo will actually mark the beginning of the GT Academy’s season three 26-day search to identify the fastest Gran Turismo racers in the U.S.

Creator of the Gran Turismo series, Kazunori Yamauchi, has created the Gran Turismo 6 demo to guide players through the beginner rounds of a GT Academy-themed race camp before they can unlock the final qualifying event featuring the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit, making the GT Academy equally accessible to novice and experts. In addition, anyone who registers and submits a qualifying time will receive free bonus content.
