Watch the Alfa Romeo 4C Lap the Nurburgring

With half the horsepower of the Porsche Panamera Turbo, the Alfa Romeo 4C can lap the treacherous Nurburgring in roughly the same time, posting a lap time of 8:04.

The light weight Italian sports car might not have broken the eight minute barrier (like the Porsche can) but it is laying claim to a record for cars with less than 250 hp – even if no one had heard of such a record until now.

Still, it’s quite a feat and is made possible by a carbon fiber chassis, allowing the car to make the very most of a turbocharged 1.75-liter 4-cylinder engine that delivers a modest 240 hp.

Looks like a brutal drive judging by the steering wheel handling... Give it to a smooth driver and I'm sure you can shave off a couple more seconds. Agree about the lights - something not quite beautiful. But it might grow on me.

A rather poor video production compared to the recent one of the Civic Type R prototype running the Ring last May. A better driver in the 4C can and will shave off at least 5 seconds. Still, a very impressive run for what is supposed to be a stock vehicle.
