Ford’s Escape small crossover is hot in more ways than one but this popular model is getting a modest price increase for 2014, which could cool things off.

The base vehicle’s MSRP has grown by $230. The entry-level S model now kicks off at $23,595, including $895 in destination fees.

The price hike applies to all models in the Escape lineup. Accordingly the range-topping Titanium version now stickers for $29,995, again that figure includes shipping and handling fees.

This small crossover was totally redesigned for the 2013 model year, and the ’14 version is pretty much a carryover. It’s a sporty and sophisticated vehicle that competes in a challenging segment. Heavyweights like the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4 and Nissan Rogue give Escape buyers a tough run for their dollars and cents.
