Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn just confirmed that the German automaker will be bringing a new midsize SUV to North America in 2016.

The new midsize SUV will emphasize technology and is based on a new modular platform designed to underpin larger vehicles that will use lessons learned from the automaker’s MQB platform according to Volkswagen spokesman Thomas Tetzlaff.

Tetzlaff also shared that the new model “might not even be sold in Europe,” suggesting that it will be specifically designed for North America.

The SUV will seat seven passengers and will be based on the CrossBlue concept seen a year ago at the Detroit Auto Show and shown in the photo above.
