BMW M2 to Pack 375 HP Straight Six

BMW did something awful when it stopped building the 1M Coupe, but the rudeboy of a little coupe could be coming back soon… in spirit.

According to a user on BimmerPost, inside sources suggest the car will arrive sometime in late 2015 or early 2016 with a straight six under the hood. That engine is supposed to make between 365 and 375 hp, which means the 1M Coupe successor will be much more powerful than 335-hp car it replaces.

BMW is rumored to have codenamed the new car “Pyrat2” after the 1M Coupe’s (pictured) “pyrat” codename. The post also suggests that BMW might not limit production with the new car as it did previously.

BMW apparently also considered a turbocharged four-cylinder engine for the project but scrapped the smaller engine in favor of the N55 inline six.

Production is supposed to begin on the cars in the fall of 2015.

M2 should be at the magic 400HP mark. 365-375HP is not even funny anymore. Even the A-class AMG gets 355HP from a 1991cc 4-banger. *They are protecting the effeminate M4 by emasculating the M2?
