2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Specs Reportedly Leaked
While the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata has officially debuted, the company has been mum on its specifications. . . until now!
According to a recent report, specs for the 2016 MX-5 Miata have leaked and the next-generation convertible sports car appears to weigh around 2,248 lbs (1,020 kg) which is in the range that the Japanese automaker has claimed. Previously, Mazda boasted that the new MX-5 had lost about 220 lbs (100 kgs) compared to the current model, which commonly weighs around 2,450 lbs depending on the trim. Expect the MX-5 to gain a little weight in U.S. spec however due to safety regulations.

The report also claims that the MX-5 Miata will be powered by a 1.5-liter Skyactiv engine with 128 hp, which is actually 39 hp less than the current model. And despite the weight loss on the new model, it actually gives the new MX-5 a worse power-to-weight ratio. It’s worth mentioning that the leaked specifications come from Australian publication Motoring and these could very well be specs for the Australian market with a more powerful variant heading to the U.S. to appease its consumers.

Methinks that 128HP figure best be changed right quick. Even the ucoming smart fortwo Brabus will have ~120HP.
