Lexus is bringing a new sports coupe to market in 2016 that the brand hopes will act as a halo car.

“We are evaluating this car as a potential halo car, to take on the role of the Lexus LFA supercar in a more affordable way,” Lexus Europe boss Alain Uyttenhoven told Autocar. “The LFA was an incredible project; it showed what we could do and it brought all sorts of positives to Lexus.”

Based on the LF-LC hybrid sports car concept, the brand is expected to resurrect the SC badge for the new car, although it will a much more focused sports car than the previous Lexus SC. When the car hits production, it is likely to use a V8 paired to an electric motor making somewhere around 480 hp.

A rumored LFA II has been in the works for some time according to a source within the company, but now it seems as though the SC will try and step in to take the place of of that car. Unlike the LFA, which was criticized for its high $375,000 price tag, the production LF-LC will be much more affordable and available in greater volume.
