Commercials during the Super Bowl have become almost as famous as the big game itself and this year one of the favorites is dropping out.

Volkswagen will not run a commercial during the 2015 Super Bowl, the company has confirmed. VW has advertised in four consecutive Super Bowls and gained particular acclaim for its 2011 spot titled “The Force.”

“Volkswagen is a great fan of the Super Bowl, and it has been a strong platform for our brand and our campaigns,” a spokeswoman told Automotive News. “However, for 2015 we have opted not to participate due to other priorities and initiatives.”

Volkswagen is not alone this year either. Lincoln and Jaguar, both of which ran commercials in last year’s game, have decided to opt out of 2015’s big game. According to NBC, so far automakers have bought half the amount of spots they did in 2012, the last time the network aired the game.
