Tesla finally has a battery swapping station up and running to offer its customers the chance to effectively recharge their car in less time than it takes to fill a gasoline tank.

Roughly 18 months ago, CEO Elon Musk stood on stage and showed the world how a Model S sedan was capable of changing batteries to eliminate long wait times to recharge. Today Musk announced through Twitter that the company has one station “operating in limited beta mode” to support the route between San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Musk didn’t offer any other details, but promised that Tesla would release more information through a blog post soon.
