World Car of the Year Finalists Announced

The finalists for the World Car of the Year award have been announced.

In alphabetical order, the ten finalists are: BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, Citroën C4 Cactus, Ford Mustang, Hyundai Genesis, Jeep Renegade, Mazda 2, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, MINI 5 door / MINI 4 door Hard Top, Nissan Qashqai and the Volkswagen Passat.

A jury of seventy-five automotive journalists from around the world select all of the finalists for each category. Besides the overall ‘World Car of the Year,’ the group chooses the World Luxury Car of the Year and World Performance Car of the Year.

The top ten finalists for the best luxury car in the world are: BMW i8, BMW X6, Cadillac ATS Coupe, Cadillac Escalade/ESV, Kia K900, Lexus NX, Lexus RC, Lincoln MKC, Mercedes-Benz S Coupe and the Range Rover Autobiography Black LWB.

When it comes to the best performance car, the judges widdled the group down to the Audi S1, Audi S3, Audi TT / TTS, Bentley Continental GT Speed, BMWM4 Coupe/M3 Sedan, Corvette Z06, Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, Jaguar F-TYPE R Coupe, Lexus RC-F and the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT.

This group also declares a Green Car of the Year, but the selection process is different. Five experts choose the short list based on actual specs and hard data concerning each car, then the 75 journalists vote on the winner. The finalists are: BMW i8, Hyundai x35/Tucson Fuel Cell, Kia Soul EV, Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine and the Volkswagen Golf GTE.

Finally, five cars are up for the World Car Design of the Year Award. They are: BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, Citroën C4 Cactus, Mercedes C-Class, Porsche Macan and theVolvo XC90.

All of the winners will be announced at the 2015 New York Auto Show on Thursday, April 2.
