Ford is calling back about 12,300 new F-150s over improperly installed rivets that can affect the steering.

In the affected vehicles, the upper I-shaft may have been improperly riveted, which can lead to separation. If that happens, the driver can lose steering control without warning.

Ford says it is not aware of any accident or injuries as a result of this problem, though there has been one documented case of steering loss while a 2015 F-150 was driving.

Of the total population of affected trucks, 6,722 vehicles are unsold, which means that only 5,606 are in customer’s hands. Dealers will inspect the I-shaft assembly and replace it if necessary, free of charge.
