Hyundai is boosting production of its Tucson crossover to meet U.S. demand.

The Korean automaker will be adding production at its assembly line in South Korea as Hyundai continues to run into capacity constraints for its popular crossovers and SUVs. The company has agreed with its South Korean union to begin production of 50,000 units for its redesigned Tucson per year at a second factory in Ulsan, which also produces the Elantra. The other factory in Ulsan is currently the only one that makes the Tucson and is unable to keep up with demand.

The 2016 Hyundai Tucson debuted earlier this year at the 2015 New York Auto Show and was launched in South Korea in March. This month, the automaker began production for exports to North America, Australia and Asia but tight supply for the crossover has resulted in a two-and-a-half month backlog for exports.

Hyundai North America believes the increased production will help double U.S. sales of the new Tucson from 45,000 to 90,000.
