The one-millionth production Mazda MX-5 Miata kicked off its U.S. tour this past week.

There’s many reasons why the Mazda MX-5 Miata is so popular, and it shows with the company having produced one million of them. The roadster was first introduced in 1989 and arguably revived the two-seater convertible market, and now many years later it has gone on to become one of the most popular roadsters available. The milestone Miata that was shown at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca during the 2016 Monterey Car Week was a Japanese-spec model.

2016 Monterey Car Week Coverage

The Millionth Mazda MX-5 Miata will make numerous stops across the U.S. in the coming months, and at each stop in the tour, 240 Miata fans and owners will have the opportunity to sign the car. It will also be accompanied by the 15th Miata ever built, a 27-year-old example that debuted at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show.
