Lamborghini Rumored to Be Planning Electric Supercar Based on Porsche Mission E

Lamborghini has been bitten by the electric car bug according to the German publication AutoBild, and will raid the Porsche Mission E battery electric car’s parts bin to build it.

The electric supercar program even has a name, “Vitola,” which gives the impression that the Italian car manufacturer is serious about this.

It’s possible that Lamborghini wants to trade naturally aspirated V10 engines for an electric drivetrain because the company needs a car that will meet the looming European Union’s new emissions regulations that begin in 2020.

Lamborghini, like Porsche is owned by the Volkswagen Group, although not directly like Porsche, but as a subsidiary of Audi.

The Mission E has an electric motor placed on the front and rear axle that provide around 600 horsepower, enough for an acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in 3.5 seconds with a top speed of more than 155 mph.

But Lamborghini wants more than that from the Porsche’s parts and pieces — a 0 to 62 mph time of 2.5 seconds and a top speed of more than 186 mph.

That would take the “Quickest Production Car in the World” title from Tesla’s latest Model S P100D, although just barely.

Of course by the time the Lambo Vitola hits the streets, niche EV carmakers like Rimac could have already established a quicker time.

In the meantime, you can watch a video from Autobild at the source link with renderings based on the information they gleaned that you don’t have to understand German to enjoy.
