Aston Martin Vantage Spied Using Shorter DB11 Body

Spy photographers have caught the next-generation Aston Martin Vantage testing in cold weather.

At first glance, the test car appears to be an older DB11 prototype, but when you look closer it’s actually shorter than the DB11. That’s because the new Vantage is a true two-seater in Aston Martin’s lineup, unlike the DB11 that is a 2+2. It will also be built on a shortened version of the DB11’s aluminum platform, although the newer model will be slightly longer, wider and lower than the current Vantage.

Expect the interior to be heavily influenced by the DB11’s cabin, with many of its new high-tech features finding its way into the Vantage. Power should come from a 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 engine sourced from AMG, likely offered with two different outputs. There will also be a range-topping model featuring the 5.2-liter V12 in the DB11, creating a new Vantage V12 model. And just like how Aston Martin is holding onto the rather large V12 engine, the Vantage will come standard with a six-speed manual transmission. There’s even a possibility that the British automaker won’t offer an automatic transmission.

Look for the new Vantage to debut as a coupe in fall 2017 with a convertible version following six to nine months later.
