Porsche introduced updates for the 911 GT3 earlier this year and now similar enhancements are set to arrive on the more performance-focused 911 GT3 RS.

New spy shots of a prototype for the refreshed 911 GT3 RS surfaced this morning, revealing the car’s new NACA-duct hood that looks as though it was plucked right off the new 911 GT2 RS. It has also adopted the front clip from the updated 911 GT3, while the rear-end has remained the same as the outgoing GT3 RS. We expect the production version to get a new rear clip with the updated 911’s new taillights, however.

The biggest changes for this updated model are set to happen under the hood. Porsche is expected to replace the 500 horsepower 4.0-liter inline-six in the outgoing model with its new 4.2-liter motor, which could make as much as 540 horsepower in the application. Just like the updated GT3, both a seven-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission and a six-speed manual should be on offer.

You can expect to see the updated 911 GT3 RS at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. It will likely go on sale in Europe before year’s end and should arrive in North America by late this year or early next year. For now, you can get familiar with the changes in the spy photos.
