Mercedes hopes that one day a car can drive itself from the assembly line to its new owner.

The German automaker has been working hard on autonomous vehicles, and has been steadily improving its current lineup with semi-autonomous features. As we reported in April, the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class can practically drive itself and to show that in action, Mercedes has shared a video of a brand new S-Class driving itself off the assembly line to the loading area within the plant, a distance of nearly a mile (1.5 kilometers).

For the 2018 model year, the Mercedes S-Class gains Distronic Active Proximity Control and Active Steer Assist, along with enhanced camera and radar systems. As a result, the S-Class can now automatically adjust speed for curves and intersections it encounters. Look for the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class to go on sale this fall.
